Unless immediate changes are made, the oceans will contain one metric ton of plastic for every three metric tons of fish by 2025. By 2050, there will be more plastic waste in the ocean than fish.
About 8 million metric tons of plastic are thrown into the ocean each year. Overtime, plastic breaks down into even smaller particles called microplastics, making them even more ubiquitous. The smaller the microplastic, the more difficult it is to capture and nearly impossible for marine life to avoid ingesting.
The best solution is prevention.
While efforts to cleanup the ocean is vital, we also need to stop it at its source.
Our children and grandchildren deserve a clean planet. It is unfair to pass on this burden to an innocent generation. We still have a chance to make these changes.
We just have to act now.
