Plastic Free July 2020: Day 1 – Coffee Cups

IT’S PLASTIC-FREE JULY 2020!!!!!!!

day1

What IS Plastic-Free July? It’s a challenge for anyone trying to reduce the amount of single-use plastics by swapping them out with sustainable alternatives.

Whether you’re just starting out or if you have been practicing low-waste habits for years, Plastic-Free July is a great way to up the ante. For those who are just beginning, where do you start? And for those who are more experienced – how can you go further?

To celebrate this month, @ZeroWasteCalifornia will be featuring a new plastic-free swap out EVERY DAY ALL MONTH LONG!!!
.
Please feel free to tag and share the photos, we want to inspire as many people as possible!

We hope that we can give an interesting spin on even some of the more obvious items, and bring up some issues we have found with them along the way.

Happy PFJ Everyone!!!!

Let’s get started!!!!!

Day 1: Coffee Cups:

3real1

According to  Clean Water Action , Starbucks alone goes through over 8,000 single-use coffee cups a minute!!! That adds up to over four billion cups each year.

Even worse, most of these cups are lined with plastic, they are not really recyclable ─ only four U.S. cities can process Starbucks cups for recycling (Source).

The best option is to bring your own mug — which understandably isn’t possible in most places due to COVID-19. So whenever possible, brew your coffee at home and bring it with you. You’ll save money, too!
