Plastic Free July 2020: Day 19 – Shaving

day19

The EPA estimates that 2 billion razors are thrown away annually. WHAT!? Disposable razors are NOT recyclable in most cities. Although you can technically recycle the steel blades (just confirm with your local recycling facility), but your typical plastic, disposable razor will usually need to go to landfill.

Additionally, most razor companies suggest replacing the razor every 10 shaves. So that’s three razors a month! Not only is that outrageous, that’s expensive!
And it could all be swapped out for ONE reusable shaver!

Many zero wasters have opted for 100% stainless steel shavers with recyclable, replaceable razors. This is a great option! But I must be honest, they can take some getting used to… and even still, they’re not always the *best* choice for shaving every single area…. some areas can be challenging. Use your imagination.

But if you have run into this problem also, consider an electric shaver. There are many options available that don’t require batteries; some can be charged with via USB port. These shavers are much gentler on the Netherlands…. 
And electric shavers don’t require any replacement razors. I’ve had the same electric shaver for 8 years!

Of course, you don’t have to shave. That’s up to you. I love your furry little butt. Yeah, you.
