GOOD NEWS!!! πππ While it seems like plastic bans have taken a backseat around the world, Greece’s Environment & Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced that the country will be banning single-use plastics as of July 2021!
According to a World Wildlife FundΒ study, Greece produces around 700,000 tons of plastic waste every year, with a significant amount resulting from the tourist industry. According to their report, 11,500 tons of that trash will end up in the ocean annually.
In addition to the ban, consumers will be given more incentives to recycle, and companies will have to come up with sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic packaging.
And let’s not forget about those who currently rely on single-use plastics to get by. We must come up with a sustainable and fair solution that doesn’t exclude anyone, while still supporting our planet!
