My dogs are just as excited about a healthy dried sweet potato as they are any processed artificial treat from the store. My point is, if we can get away with treating our fur babies to healthy snacks, why poison them with junk?
If they’re healthy and happy, I’m happy.
And why over-complicate things? Here’s a 1-ingredient recipe for a dog treat all 4 of my dogs enjoy — even Gogo – the picky princess.
Sweet potatoes are tasty and healthy, but don’t just trust me, an internet source. Ask your vet! Never give your dogs anything new without double checking with a vet or vet tech first. And with any treat, only give it to your pets in moderation. It’s like a dessert, after all.
The recipe? Easy.
Directions:
Slice the sweet potato as thinly as possible – if you have a mandolin – bust it out.
You can either bake the slices in the oven or if you have a dehydrator, you can use that, too!
Oven Instructions:
Layer the slices on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake the slices at 275 F for 2 hours.
Turn off oven and let potatoes dry for 2 more hours (or overnight).
Dehydrator Instructions:
Layer the slices on your dehydrating surface so no slices are overlapping.
Dehydrate at 165 F for 6-8 hours, until totally solid. If still squishy or wet, it needs more time.
