In the last two years, Zero Waste California is proud to say that we have reached viewers in over 60 countries worldwide. But what IS zero waste? And how is this relevant to non-California residents?
What is zero waste?
“Zero waste” has become a colloquial term that basically means, you don’t create trash. In other words, you do your best to prevent any thing your consume from being picked up by your local trash collector, only to be dumped in a landfill.
(To do this, “zero wasters” follow the 6 R’s: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Refill, Rot (compost), and Recycle.)
At Zero Waste California, zero waste has become an umbrella term, inclusive of all things that promote a healthier environment. Because it’s not just materials that get wasted by going to landfill. Money, time, and efficiency can all be wasted as well. Surprisingly, the zero waste method can prevent wasting all three.
